OHM attend Deal Hustings

As members of the local Deal Town Chamber of Trade, OHM director Nigel Stevenson was invited to the 2019 General Election Hustings. Always a lively event, the 2019 Hustings held in Deal Town Hall yesterday (2-12-19) was no exception. The questions were mainly business based with the Brexit issue surprisingly only coming up once. The Labour candidate Charlotte Cornell was well supported and added an edge to the evening with Conservative Natalie Elphicke (wife of the Dover MP Charlie Elphicke who is standing down)  following the party line with most of her answers. Liberal Democrats, Simon Dodd and The Green Party, Beccy Sawbridge both held their own with some interesting...

signature design service for emails

email signature graphics – FREE design offer for OHM clients

Emails are an important part of your business stationery, used every day, when you make first contact they are also your e-card and if you’re a limited company they must have legal information in them (ICO requirement since 2007!). Logo, telephone numbers, web addresses and the small print all goes into what the techs call the ‘signature’. Creating a signature is (if you know how to do it) very straight forward. Most email programs have a signature design area that allows you to create your own signature with images, links and formatting, here’s the Oast House Media Christmas design using Outlook in Office365. But be careful, signatures must be small...

email cyber hacking east kent

Have you been hacked?

The cyber security company Avast claim that 29,271,842,390 passwords have been stolen recently, mainly from emails accounts. Problem is you don’t know this is going on or where the information is being used. Some of the big attacks run into millions of addresses that are sold on the dark web. I think we need to assume that nothing is safe so do not put info into emails that’s sensitive. That’s why a lot of documents (PDFs) have a secondary security gateway, same with some websites if you try to access from another device (IP address). Larger companies use ‘firewalls’ to protect their internal mail systems and we’ve even heard of...

Office 365 gains popularity with clients

Emails remain the biggest issue for most full support web design companies. Traditionally Oast House Media have offered email services in parallel with web hosting for free which has worked fine for years but an increasing group of clients require a better, more sophisticated email solution especially those who use their emails on mobile devices. Why? Facebook messenger and Whatsapp are leading the mobile device comms game and have unintentionally dragged emails with them but emails have additional benefits like attachments, CC and BCC tagging, email formatting, links, multi source image embed to name a few advanced attributes the aforementioned cant do. There are 2 common email formats that can...

Slow loading web pages to be penalised by Google

Google have announced that their Chrome browser will soon be monitoring websites that are slow loading. A warning message will be displayed to let you know the website they are attempting to view could take a while to load. This will typically affect websites with large amounts of content especially images. We see this as a bit of a retrograde decision with so many countries now enjoying quick broadband speeds but there is a possible data use issue so lite websites could save Google a lot of money. Here at Oast House Media we have been aware of image size for some time and filter all images supplied for our...

web design clients working for clients in kent

Clients working for clients

Two local web design clients have joined up for a construction project near Canterbury. Hartlee Tree Surgeons have commissioned Stevenson Builders to build a new extension. Andy and Clive Stevenson specialise in older buildings having just completed the Kersney Abbey refurbishment for Coombs in Dover, this Victorian property will not be such a challenge but matching old to new is a skill in its own right. Both Stevenson Builders and Hartlee Tree Surgeons have completed work for Oast House Media, and very good work it was to!

Last weekend director Nigel Stevenson took a flying visit to European PUBG gaming HQ in Amsterdam. Son Jack is the corporate designer for PUBG putting together graphics for game covers, game features and corporate promo material. Still in his 20’s Jack’s...
