The Strand Wine Company website in Deal and Sandwich Kent

Off License website redesign goes live

Popular ‘offy’ The Stand based in Sandwich and Walmer in Kent have been long term web clients. Having read my many News Letters, owners Tess and Glen asked for a consultation, where else? down the pub! It was a really interesting meeting because being in the trade they know not only the brands and types of drink, but what is trending: ie Jägerbombs out, Gin is in! When you talk to the experts you can begin to understand the trade and what makes it work well for you. The old website was about five years old so well overdue a makeover and a great opportunity to refresh content. Surprisingly i...

KJA bookkeeping new website design

OHM Bookkeeper website re-design goes live

KJA Bookkeeping based in East Kent have been our long term financial partners for many years giving us many opportunities to convince business owner Keith Steed that he needs a mobile friendly, WordPress web design. Keith asked for a simple low cost design for just a basic web presence as he’s already very busy with bookkeeping and payroll work for local East Kent clients. We embellished the web pages with free images from Pixabay and a slide show on the home page. Now the site is live we can give Keith his free WordPress training see website: kjabookkeeping.co.uk

windows XP cyber attack

Windows XP hack is a warning to us all

Windows XP is an operating system (OS) looking after all the functionality on a PC, it’s the room that everything happens in on your screen. Over 400 million copies of XP have been sold (and many more used illegally!) making it one of the most successful programs ever developed. Sales ceased for PCs in 2008 (Netbooks 2010) and replaced by the unpopular Vista OS and then Windows 7. XP support ceased in 2014 but the OS still remains popular in Africa and China. Targeting an old OS made a lot of sense if you’re into destroying businesses and peoples lives in general. With no updates to protect against malware and...

number one BB new website design in kent

Number One is No. 1 on Google in Deal, Kent

We like to keep an eye on our clients Google performance, especially new designs. Recently completed Number One B and B website is competing in a tough market with the national directories muscling in on page one of a Google search. Our WordPress website design is fighting them off with a lovely design (tho I say it myself) and a great little free SEO pack called ‘Yoast’ (plug-in), see website: numberonebandb.co.uk for design and check the Google position yourself More about our Google SEO services

copyscape search website

How to search and stop other web users copying your content from your website

Probably one of the most dangerous games you can play – plagiarism! Get caught and the legal fees could run into £k’s. There is a modern myth on the internet that because it’s free you can use it? Images usually, stolen and used without written consent, but text content or ‘copy’ as we call it can also be stolen. Unlike an image, stolen text is a lot harder to trace so we recommend Copyscape. www.copyscape.com To check results simply enter the web page URL (address) and click search, if you match you’ll get see a list of websites using the same content. Try putting www.bbc.co.uk if you’re not sure. A...

Anti-spam filters, more customer feedback

Back in September 16 we put a special offer on the table for all clients having spam email problems, see: new-anti-spam-filter-making-a-big-difference Many clients have taken up the offer with 100% success rates, read the original news blog for more about the offer and how it works but read this first… “Just a note to say how pleased I am with the filter you put on the pop email addresses. We were drowning in spam [200 a day or more] and after about 5-7 days we are back to normal levels of just 1-2 a day!” Judy escortdrycleaners.co.uk

Email updates completed

Many thanks to all our web design clients who assisted with the email updates over the past 5 days. Hopefully the support information we supplied assisted clients in the transfer from email forwarder to pop3 accounts. We’ve been featuring the email forwarder issues in past news blogs but the crunch came when two of our clients accounts were compromised, hopefully all now fixed and happy sailing for the future.

The demise of the e-mail forwarder

As the big email propagators go cold on the email forwarding concept, how can you convert to pop3 (or imap) and when should you do it? The way to look at the demise of your email forwarder is to consider its past use… If it’s been used for marketing and/or stationery you probably need to keep it, therefore it needs to be re-issued/converted to a real email account, what we call a pop3 account. And/or… If it’s been used on a website (now or in the past) therefore listed on say a directory, a customer’s contact info for your business you probably need to keep it, therefore it needs to...
