Google Anti-trust law suit. Good or bad?

Google in court over trust monopoly

A judge in Columbia has decided that Google, one of the worlds biggest businesses, it in breach of trust.

What this basically means is that Google has such a big monopoly, other similar service similar providers do not have an equal opportunity. Google are also accused of pre-loading their search platform onto browsers like Chrome (remember the Microsoft court cases in 2001? It’s the same gig)

Google will obviously argue that the reason they are the biggest is because they are the best search provider, the case is probably drag on for years!

What do OHM think?
We’ve been developing websites going right back to an era when there was a fair share of the search pie, spread across a large selection of search engines. The issue then was – how do we set websites up to work on all search algorithms? You cant!

But about 10 years ago we started to see a steady rise in Google’s search popularity, why?

  • no adverts
  • no news feeds
  • useful search prompts
  • simple page view
  • easy to use
  • good depth of search results
  • easy to view and click thru
  • no pop-ups
  • easy to load and activate on your browser

If you remember, Yahoo, Ask and MSN etc used their results pages as ad windows – Google didn’t, and that’s the main reason for their success.

In more recent times, Google has developed into a very clever search platform with image search, boolean search, voice search and now Gemini Ai search.

From a search engine optimiser (SEO) view point, working and optimising for one search engine is not only good for us but also for the client, minimising SEO costs to just one focus point

So we say – HANDS OFF!
Leave Google to not only offer the best search service but also remain the verb for search – “bing it”? it’ll never catch on.
