Covid training a Beautiful website

Since the lock-down last year we’ve continued to build and re-design websites remotely for our clients. The free WordPress training has to date been completed ‘peer-to-peer’ using dedicated software. This however dosen’t always work for everyone and due to other restrictions we completed our first on-site training session since 2019 at The Beautiful Homes showrooms in Deal, Kent. Media Manager Ffion Thomas-Friend has taken over the reins at Beautiful Homes with all web, social media and online marketing so a full training session on WordPress, social media integration and Google SEO best practice was requested by the owners David and Sonia. Ffion is now fully up to speed and ready...

who is the best website designer in kent

Best web designers in Kent?

It’s not easy to gauge value when it comes to a service like web design is it? If you pop into Tescos to buy you favourite choccy bar and it’s cheaper than the corner shop, that’s better value. If you have a favourite tipple and it’s more expensive in the wine bar than your local pub but you prefer the ambiance? Is that good value, or are you balancing cost against an experience, so called ‘customer satisfaction’. Take this a step further and we find find ourselves indulging in some products (and services) that don’t just take us from A to B the quickest way, they also give enjoyment. The...

New server upgrades nearing completion

Over the past new months Oast House media have been working with their hosting support guys transferring websites to our new servers. Hopefully you wont notice a thing, so why do it? As with any ‘tech’, hosting systems are improving all the time. We estimate a new server upgrade is required every 5 years to keep on top and in line with industry requirements, ie: speed, security, maintenance, integration, back-ups (key issues that are continuously monitored). All of this and investment in new equipment/software is an ongoing process. We talk to our support team nearly every day and enjoy fantastic response times. If you have ever had cause to report...

Training goes peer to peer

It would appear that peer to peer is very appealing! As we continue to design and launch new websites through the lock-down period, training the client on how to update their new websites had to go on-line. In the past we’ve either go to the clients offices or they come to OHM. Restriction forced the change and it worked brilliantly. We miss the cup of tea and chat but peer to peer is the way to go and OHM will be on-line instructors in the future. How does it work? Using dedicated software, the client downloads a designated peer to peer program, launches then issues the ID and password, OHM...

Last month we completed another WordPress training session but this time it was for an existing client who’d already had WordPress training. For the lock-down period, Oast House Media are offering FREE on-line WordPress training*. First up was Joe Kidd from Kent based mobile opticians Sightcall. Joe’s in South East London and self isolating with his family, however as WordPress is a cloud based application he could log-into his Dashboard from home and we accessed Joe’s device using remote access software and walked him through...

website design for mobile devices

Why does Oast House Media use WordPress for website design?

Oast House Media have been building websites for nearly 20 years and since 2015 we’ve used the WordPress platform, but why? WordPress is FREE! So when you purchase a web design from OHM you’re not paying for any development costs, just the time it takes to put the pages and design together. WordPress is a ‘cloud’ based application enabling updating via the ‘dashboard’ editing pages anywhere in the world as long as you have a secure internet connection. You do not require ‘specialist’ software, WordPress plug-ins can be used to edit images (size) and design the page layout. WordPress is Google friendly, all pages and posts can be optimised to...
